Blind Rivets

A blind rivet, also known as a pop rivet, is a type of fastener used to join two or more materials together, typically when you don’t have access to the backside of the materials.

It’s called a “blind” rivet because it can be installed from one side of the workpiece, and it securely fastens materials together without the need for access to the opposite side.

INSTALLATION:

Here’s how a blind rivet works:

1. Components: A blind rivet consists of two main parts: a cylindrical body with a mandrel (a stem-like piece) through its center.
2. Installation: To install a blind rivet, a hole is drilled through the materials to be joined. The rivet is then inserted into the hole from one side, with the mandrel protruding out from the other side.
3. Rivet Gun: A special tool called a rivet gun is used to set the blind rivet. When the gun is activated, it pulls on the mandrel while pressing against the body of the rivet. This causes the mandrel to deform and expand the body of the rivet against the inner surfaces of the hole, creating a secure and tight joint between the materials.
4. Mandrel Break-off: Once the rivet is set and the body has expanded sufficiently, the excess mandrel is broken off or cut, leaving a neat and finished appearance.

Blind rivets are commonly used in a wide range of applications, such as in the automotive industry, construction, aerospace, and many others, where it may not be possible to access the backside of the materials being joined.
